In 2022 the SI gained new prefixes for the first time in thirty years: quetta, ronna, ronto and quecto.
The reason was practical — global data volumes were approaching the yottabyte and there was nothing left to count in.
So the system of units is not frozen in a textbook: it gets extended whenever reality hits the ceiling.
Why the numbers can be trusted. Every countable number here is computed from data rather than typed in, and the sheet must pass 3 independent checks before it is allowed to build — how many items there are, the order they come in, and the claim in the highlighted box itself. If one fails, there is no file.
