The filled dot is the root and the figure inside each dot is the degree of the triad. The dots are calculated from standard tuning; the sheet prescribes no left-hand fingering.
A two-string position holds exactly three notes — root, third, fifth — and that is the whole triad. The top note sits 7 semitones above the root, a fifth: there is no octave in the position at all, and nowhere to take one from.
The reason is that the second and first strings are only 5 semitones apart. To reach the same root an octave higher you need the twelfth fret of the first string, seven frets above where the shape begins. No stretch covers that.
Which is what every two-string exercise looks like: it does not stay in a position but rolls along the neck, taking the same three notes higher each time with a shift of the hand. It is also why the window here is five frets rather than four — in four frets the minor third no longer has room.
Why the numbers can be trusted. Every countable number here is computed from data rather than typed in, and the sheet must pass 13 independent checks before it is allowed to build — how many items there are, the order they come in, and the claim in the highlighted box itself. If one fails, there is no file.
