A 4/4 bar holds four quarter notes. The bars on the right show how many of each value fit inside it.
The whole system rests on one rule: every note is half the length of the previous one. Nothing else to memorise.
That’s why the bars double each row: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 — the same power of two as computer memory.
A dot after a note adds half its value again, which is exactly why it yields three equal parts instead of two.
Why the numbers can be trusted. Every countable number here is computed from data rather than typed in, and the sheet must pass 2 independent checks before it is allowed to build — how many items there are, the order they come in, and the claim in the highlighted box itself. If one fails, there is no file.
